Saturday, January 30th – Press Conference

Time: 12 noon-12:30pm
Location: Chatham Square (intersection of Mott, Bowery, Worth St, and East Broadway)
Meet at the Statue, right outside Asia Bank & Dim Sum Go Go

To promote this year’s parade with the inclusion of Lunar New Year for All, we are holding a press conference this Saturday, January 30th at 12 noon at Chatham Square. The featured speakers will be Rev. Patrick Cheng and his 70-year old mother, Mrs. Deanna Cheng. They will speak about their own family’s experience and the Rev.’s work with Asian LGBT youth and families, and why Asian communities must come together to challenge homophobia and celebrate a truly inclusive Lunar New Year. Also featured will be the voices of Chinatown youth: Jamie Tam, Chinatown-born-and-raised transgender male/trans young man (FTM), and Penelope Blum, Chinese-born and recently immigrated bisexual-identified young woman.

Please come join us for this brief press conference on Saturday to show your support of Asian LGBT families. You will not have to speak to any reporters (unless you want to), and your presence will help us have a strong showing for Lunar New Year for All’s first public event with coverage from Chinese media.

Sunday, January 31st – Kite & Prop Making Meeting

Time: 1pm-6pm
Location: Project Reach, 39 Eldridge Street, 4th floor.
(Take the D or B to Grand Street, walk one block down to Eldridge. It’s between Canal St.and Hester St.)

Join us this Sunday afternoon! We’ll be constructing our giant rainbow fish puppets and a giant papermache phoenix for the queer contingent of the chinatown lunar new year parade! We need everyone, especially folks who know how to sew!
We’ll have dumplings too!

Sunday, FEBRUARY 21ST – LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE

Time: meet @ 11am
Location: Mott Street (cross street to be announced)

Let all your friends & family know! Save the date, and come out to march with with the first Asian LGBT contingent in NY Chinatown. We will be flying our fish kites, phoenix, and handing out resource-cards to the crowds. We want a big, beautiful group, with young and old, that represents the true diversity of Asian LGBT families & community. We have friends & parner organizations joining us from Philly, NJ, Boston, Rhode Island — so think big and invite everyone to join in!
